i'm brand new to the board.

long time, "big shot" elder, ....taught at km school, conventions, etc.

yeah, i know it means nothing....but it gives you an idea of how deep i've been a jw.. i don't even really know what to write at this point.

I guess I don't know what or how to contribute at this point because I'm an emotional guy....which made me a popular elder......but lonely person

I can relate to your experience as many here can.

You may feel lonely but you are far from alone - hope to get to know you better.

Atheist with crisis of conscience. Please help.

i'm an atheist having a serious crisis of conscience.

please help.. i've read many, many posts that talk about atheism as a faith as distinct as any other faith.

there has also been much made of the atheist lifestyle.. my dilemma -- i don't know what the atheistic faith entails.

LOL - Mr Hitchens is one of the most miserable men I have ever seen - not exactly flying the flag for the supposed freedom of atheism!

Many believe in God - but do not "fear" a deity.

As to the atheist lifestyle, I'm not sure I'm living it correctly

Huh???? What lifrstyle? I am religious but have no set lifestyle.

Is atheism a belief? Or is it that atheism is "not" believing something? I am not sure what the correct definition would be.

Anyhows - I know plenty of atheists - are they happier people than believers - well, no to be honest - they are as happy/unhappy as everyone else.

Are they more free than believers? I suppose they are in certain ways - but it does not seem to lead to greater happiness for them.

Believe what you want and live the best way you feel - enjoy life.

me.. wasting time believing in such silliness is like hoping one day to turn into mickey mouse.

why not accept life now, while you have it, and understand that like all others before you, you are going to die too.

you won't wake from that.

I may believe in an afterlife - but I aint going to sacrifice my current life on this earth waiting for it.

It's tragic when we live in the past " if I only did this or did that" or the future like the witnesses do " when the new system comes I'll be happy". Both attitudes rob us of enjoying life now each day.

I don't feel free. I've nothing to rejoice over. The woman I love is convinced that my path is wrong.

I feel for you man - a very difficult situation.

Many of us here have went through very similar experiences - I am certainly one of them. When I realsied it was not "the truth" I was still an elder, going to elders meetings etc. I knew deep down I would have to take a stand for what is right. If you look at some of my older posts you can read my story.

But my key point is the qoute I have added at the start of this comment. When I first stopped attending meetings I did not feel free, I felt lost! Also Mrs Scotsman was still going to meetings - she thought I was mad, she thought we would split up, she thought she would be in the paradise and I would not - it was a very emotional time for us - many tears were shed.

But despite this I felt I had to stand up for what is right - Jehovahs Witnesses are a mind control cult that ruin people's lives - I had to leave.

I managed to execute a successful fade - and the good news - Mrs Scotsman "eventually" followed me out. It was when this happened I started to feel free. Perhaps this will happen for you!!!

So a happy ending - yes - but not without some pain, some sacrifice, I lost many friends. But I have made new ones.

I suppose my main point is this - Their is life after Jehovahs Witnesses - it just may take a while to get there...

i recently started dating this guy, tonight he wants to come over and spend the night with me.

but he absourlutly refuses to make any other plans to see me beyond that!.

My worst nightmare would be to be taken adventage of by a guy who can't belive his luck in finding a girl whose so completly clueless.

You need to tell this guy to bugger off - you are walking straight into your worst nightmare!!!
